Stills from smoke and glass

BA (Hons) Fine Art: Print And Time-Based Media

My practice focuses on creating a distorted perception by concentrating on the use of domestic objects, and how they are related to or interpreted through a human presence. This is achieved by using anthropomorphism, the idea to place human characteristics onto either animals or objects, which results in treating the object in a way in which it is not traditionally. Intuition and a human condition called ‘synaesthesia’ (human sensory information being mixed together) are factors that are also thought about and included when in the moment of making a piece of work. Processes such as deconstructing, manipulating and rearranging are heavily evident within the work to keep to the theme of a ‘distorted perception’, which as a result evoke a surreal, lighthearted and playful feel to the work. However, these processes used do not completely remove all traces of the object, making a presence to the original known to the viewer. Bringing that surreal feeling back down to earth slightly, this deliberate action makes it evident that a change and manipulation to an object has taken place. http://amyatkins.webs.com/
