A female Rocker from the 1960s

MA History And Culture Of Fashion

I have recently completed an MA in the ‘History and Culture of Fashion’ at LCF and I am currently seeking employment. Ever since taking a BA in straight ‘History’ at the University of York and tailoring my final dissertation to an analysis of the 1920’s flapper dress and styles’ relationship to the surrounding culture, I have always harboured an interest in fashion. In subsequently choosing to study an MA course at LCF I have widened my understanding of many areas of the fashion industry, and I have written numerous essays with reference to exhibition reviews, marketing, material analysis and fashion photography, which included a practical piece. In particular, my MA experience has helped me channel my interests and since commencing the course I always felt a close sensibility to subcultural studies, taking a personal interest in both historical and contemporary street styles. As such, for my final dissertation I chose to explore a relatively neglected area within subcultural research, female participation within the Rocker subculture of the 1960’s to create an original thesis. In particular, undertaking an MA has allowed me to gain important skills for the future such as meeting targets, delivering to deadlines, working well under pressure as an independent student and learning the importance of a self-motivated and organized approach. Furthermore, my LCF experience has built upon my knowledge and understanding of the complexity in which the fashion environment operates as a whole, an essential skill to learn as far as my desire to build a career within the industry is concerned.
