"A dress is a permanent revelation of most secret thoughts, a language and a symbol.â - Balzac, une fille d'eve (1839) Dress reveals oneâs ideas - it shouts out or speaks gently about an individualâs personality and identity to the outside world. It also give us a clue to a personâs background, the influences they have been exposed to, whether they carry a message and where in the social hierarchy they may be placed. It has been argued by some fashion historians and social commentators that the class boundaries are increasingly blurred, yet whether we accept it or not, class distinctions still exist. Based on this philosophy, the collection, "Diffusion between Proletariats and Bourgeois" (Prolonged ostension of representing the chasm class strata) is inspired by the chasm between Proletariats and Bourgeois. ThIs collection was aimed to observe difference in attire in different social classes indicating the relevance and importance of individual choice today. In this project, Hana Cha wanted to illuminate the shape of the class struggle and reinterpret the class gaps through trickle down and bubble up process to reduce the chasm which still exists in modern society between the upper class and lower class.Hana's intention was to create a new style by combining the two conflicted style of both the proletariat and the bourgeois. Consequently, Hana concreted the illusion which comes from the combination of the opposite classes (the bourgeois and the proletariat) which indicate and represent entrenched social division. She also wanted to manifest the opposites from the chasm between class strata metaphorically and set up a signpost for the emergence of new styles by collusion and merging of ideas coming from opposites within society. This collection will be presented in a catwalk show, 'Poemtry' on 2.Feb.2012 at Victoria and Albert museum in London and Hana Cha is nominated for the womenswear collection of the year.
