BA (Hons) Sculpture
My practice works with the theatrical and flawed, showing great detail in making but yet understandable through clearly highlighted methods of construction. While earlier in my practice this was concerned with the desperation of filling space in the persona of a desperate artist which resulted in large scale, logo-like sculptures this has evolved into a closer look into the impressive or escapist impulse as a distraction. I see awe and the big impact as an important and embraceable quality of sculpture but I play with this is my work. It is a clear manipulative tool. My degree show work, which I invite you to view (4th Floor, Seminar Space), plays with the infinite and unfulfilling nature of escapism, acknowledging all culture as escapist, but yet celebrating it through its treatment of the various support/belief systems (spiritualism, adventure/virtual worlds, food/plenty). Here they are beautiful and cherished objects presented as precious museum-like dioramas.
