“She might be without country, without nation, but inside her there was still a being that could exist and be free, that could simply say I am without adding a this, or a that, without saying I am Indian, Guyanese, English, or anything else in the world.” - Sharon Maas, Of Marriageable Age (2000) At the heart of my project is a personal voyage of self-discovery as I strive to find commonalities between contrasting identities and cultural diasporas. My focus is based on shared human experiences by looking at ideas of belonging and displacement through juxtaposing strikingly different modes of existence – the people on the streets of India and the Amish communities in North America. This led me to the concept of ‘Lost and Found’ as I truly believe this concept encapsulates my personal and professional journey. As a fashion design student, I found it necessary to incorporate socially relevant and personal stories into my collection as I consider fashion to be a mirror to life. Throughout this project, I have demonstrated my desire to experiment, to push boundaries and to design a collection which will represent the under-represented sections of society. Our Mission

BA (Hons) Drawing

My work is characterised by an interest in human interaction and ‘The Social’. This means the way individuals interact with each other may it be in reference to their dwelling, cultural grounding or political sphere. This is manifested within cross-disciplinary works sometimes creating conceptual representations of sociability in sculptures, drawings, diagrams or actual interactive events.

The collection is aimed at high-end women’s wear in a western market. The typical customer is an individual who can appreciate the time and effort involved in creating hand woven fabrics. The process of manufacture is mainly handloom, and materials and textures are a combination of wickers, masks, and pottery. These age-old techniques and traditional crafts elements have been translated and incorporated into a collection that is reflective of a modern contemporary silhouette, sourced through ethical textiles.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

I am a Japanese designer with an international background who loves aesthetics with a hint of fantasy in reality. This Autumn/Winter 2013-14 collection was produced within a collaborative team: two students from Surface Textiles, myself in knitwear and Ping-Yi Lee in embellishment, dedicated to Janet Kim from Menswear. The concept of childhood imagination was studied through areas such as psychology, sociology, and visual expressions to understand the significance of children's creativity from carious perspectives. These themes were then interpreted through knit, embellishment, and shape development to create garments that embodies playful and sophisticated innovation. Like the monsters drawn by children, the mood of the project reflects on their contradictory characterisation as intimidating but beautiful, expressive but hidden, juvenile but mature... Discovering these imaginary creatures that are thought to be watching us from the dark closet of underneath the bed took us on a journey to explore the colours, movement, and textures for the collection. The materials and chemicals found in that of biology and chemistry all serve to influence my work. Using Etching I focus on natural growths in the landscape, which impact the environment subtly and strangely. These images appear to mirror growths and disease upon organs and cells within the body. There is an exciting link between anatomy and botany. I allow the alchemy of etching to overtake the original drawing using diverse chemicals to grow and develop upon the plate.

Fashion to me is the strongest way of unleashing an expression. I am always fascinated by the overlapping of art, music, architecture and fashion. My style is defined by intriguing and futuristic silhouettes combined with surreal expression. Drawing inspiration from the nostalgia and power of expression of contemporary gothic art and the futuristic approach in process drawings of 'Zaha Hadid`s' architecture, I have attempted to create a collection with balanced chaos of asymmetry and structure.

MA Strategic Fashion Marketing

MA RESEARCH Abstract Location-based services (LBS) offer immense potential in terms of targeting individual customers based on their preferences and location. The personalized service is opening a whole new chapter in brand communication especially with the meteoric rise of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Packaged as a location-based application (app) for mobile devices, LBS is becoming increasingly ubiquitous and advantageous for customers and companies alike. But, consumer privacy concerns exist which are inhibiting adoption. The purpose of this research is to build a framework to predict factors that influence consumer adoption of location-based apps for fashion brands for a particular personalization system, namely push messages. The framework considers technology acceptance factors, together with information disclosure factors and their combined effect on intention to adopt. To this end, an extensive literature review was conducted to formulate the proposed model for LBS adoption, which was empirically tested through a structured consumer survey and regression equation modeling, supported by focus group interviews to validate results and obtain rich insights. The findings show that among technology acceptance factors perceived enjoyment has a stronger effect on attitude than usefulness and among information disclosure factors, perceived risk outweighs the benefits. Personalisation is seen as a key benefit while overall intention is influenced more by technology factors than privacy issues. Thus suggesting significant implications for brands, developers, service providers and marketers alike. The research makes a significant contribution to existing literature on LBS by enhancing our understanding of adoption factors and also provides a starting point for further research into branded location-based apps or services such as m-commerce through branded apps. About me Economics (Hons) graduate with substantial prior experience (over 8 years) in brand marketing and advertising in international markets (London, Dubai, Delhi). Returned to education to pursue my love of fashion brands, marketing and digital through the MA Strategic Fashion Marketing programme at LCF, to learn new skills and competitively position career within the fashion/digital industry landscape.
