BA (Hons) Drawing

Currently, my practice is an interrogation of drawing as a three dimensional process. I am particularly interested in confusing manual diagrams. Using digital photography as my medium, I document ambiguous handmade linear objects made from black foam board and modeled on manual diagrams from IKEA and household appliances. The images from afar appear to be unfinished, skewed drawings and float in a sea of blank space. Using a scalpel and a tube of glue, combined with familiar Do-It-Yourself methods of construction, I cut strips of black foam board to construct diagrams. The end product, a shell of the original, functions mimetically and as a physical drawing existing in real space. The work exists in two dimensions: as photographs and as drawings. The third dimension, the model, is short- lived as it is destroyed in the photographing process making the images the only existing documentations of it. My work challenges the pre- conceived notions of drawing as a two- dimensional mark making process by taking on a sculptural form. Ambiguity and uncertainty are inherent in my practice. The photographs exists somewhere within the construction or deconstruction process without the possibility of ever knowing or locating it. www.reneeodjidja.co.uk
