MA Interior and Spatial Design
By wearing a tight body brace day and night for six full years has caused me severe physical and psychological problems. It became a part of me, where I was actually trapped in my own body; I could not escape from the brace which it was for my scoliosis problem; indeed I did not have the option to choose if I would wear it. I had to wear it to keep my spine from worsen as I grew; otherwise my spine would deform more, and I would have definitely required last-resort surgery. I was veritably entrapped in a situation that made escape impossible; which is the state of claustrophobia. The main aspects that my project addresses are the relationship between body performance in spaces that induce claustrophobia and the physical and psychological connections that occur. This idea originated from my body brace device introduced above.
