MA Visual Arts (Fine Art)
My current practice is across the mediums of drawing, collage, photography and film. What brings the work together is an attention to the act of looking within the everyday as a means of training attention onto my own experience and the viewing experience in general. I am interested in bringing overlooked aspects of lived experience into view but not in a straight forward or documentary way. Through photography and to a lesser extent film I have explored neglected spaces that have become part of my daily encounter with the urban environment and the architecture of the city in order to bring these spaces into view. Later combining my intuitive responses through drawing and collage onto photographic prints has been a recent development to push the boundaries of my practice. This has become an effective way of translating experiences that are perhaps unconscious in part and in this way I have found that obscuring the image can draw attention onto what has been overlooked. Bringing the work into the exhibition space is for me an opportunity to revisit the place and space of the work.
