In my videos linear narrative is deconstructed and its elements re-contextualised to resemble a multidimensional, fragmented and simultaneous experience of time. Drawing on a large pool of references from art history and cinema I aim to reveal the apparatus behind the myth of the apparent necessity of a coherent narrative. Through combining found and my own footage I emphasize the relativity of the image-content and negate the significance of its originality: The importance of a definite past, present or future is undermined. Influenced by experimental writing and early film montage I aim to develop a language, which stands outside the clarity of signification, linearity, coherence and sometimes even logical comprehension so that the multidimensional structure allows the viewer to be part of the narrative. Furthermore the viewer is then able to define his position as within a network of references that provoke memory, perception, recollection and actual narrative happening. www.dagmarschurrer.com Please contact me for more information: info[at]dagmarschurrer.com
