BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles
I studied for my Foundation at Chelsea College of art, specialising in Textiles, before moving to London College of Fashion to complete my BA in Surface Textiles, during which I have had experience in Print, Knitwear and Embroidery and specialised in Embroidery. My work is always underpinned and driven by concept; a story or meaning of some kind is always integral to producing my textiles, which is also informed by a love of Literature and Fine Art. I explore ideas through any available medium- paint, stitch, photography and mixed media. Translation is a key process - translating an idea from concept to paint to textiles, and ultimately into garments. My Final Major Project has been informed by research into Sirens- Creatures of the Greek Myths who personify a cacophony of different emotions and encapsulate many different identities. Through experimental textiles I have explored the way in which Sirens represent beauty and death as being irreversibly intertwined. Flesh, blood, bones, teeth, muscle and sinew; the Anatomy of Violence. Corpses, Meat Markets, Old bones and rotten flowers; Physical manifestations of destruction and death. Birds, subtlety, elegance of movement, vulnerability, snapped feathers; broken wings, sadness and beauty.
