MA Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear)
May Tang is a fashion designer from Hongkong. She was graduated from BA Fashion Textiles & Design in Hong Kong Polytechnic University. During the BA course, she won the champion of the graduation show and the most promising young talent award sponsored by LaneCrawford. She is interested in creating new shapes. She is also keen on playing with pattern cutting. More in the MA project, laces were used which was inspired by congenital spinal diseases. (Laces wwere all tailoredmade by Smart Lace Embroidery Company Ltd,) Laces have been applied not only in garments but also in accessaries (shoes and hats). âWrithe in paradeâ is the title of the collection. Everything started from congenital spinal diseases which are mostly found in babies or young kids. It's so pity to see the images throughout the research. Yet the constructional defects inspired May with shifting the structure of basic pattern cutting and produced unexpected, interesting outcomes on the garments. The organic nature of the topic was developed into the design of laces with plastic yarns. This is a combination of organic patterns with synthetic materials, inspired by the disease treatment with braces. The vintage-like fabrications crash into the modern cuts. The looks are matched up with lace shoes and hats, the final looks are quite tough with less femininity. Contact info: Tel +44(0)7867686312 Email meiyan_tang@yahoo.com.hk
