MA Fashion Curation
I trained as a pattern cutter at London College of Fashion where I was first introduced to creating clothes by draping fabric on a mannequin and the work of Madeleine Vionnet. I worked as a pattern cutter and toiliste for many years before becoming a fashion lecturer. While working at Bath Spa University, where fashion students have access to the archives and collections of Bath Fashion Museum, I became aware of the importance of the study of clothing to inspire and teach future generations of fashion designers. It was here that I had the rare opportunity to examine and handle the two Vionnet dresses belonging to Lady Foley which were purchased by Bath Fashion Museum. This led me not only to further my study of Vionnetâs skills, but also to research the life of Lady Foley and how she chose and wore these exquisite dresses. My Masters project Wearing Vionnet shows Vionnetâs innovative concept to create a harmony between a womanâs clothes and her body by telling the story of Lady Foley, one of her British clients. Other projects Looking Twice: A group exhibition exploring the use of illusion in fashion. Style in the Sky: A proposal for an exhibition of British Airways stewardess uniforms in Heathrow Terminal 5. A study of the development of Fashion Education in Britain.
