BA (Hons) Fine Art
I was born and raised in South-East London and have lived in the East End for the last five years where the interaction and experiences I have had in these places have heavily influenced my work. My practice is informed by a âblack expressive cultureâ as termed by Paul Gilroy, and introduces a new concept of the âurban shamanâ, being someone who acts as an intermediary between alternate states of mind, place and being. I gather personal and collective histories to explore the now and search for an identity in a language informed by my surroundings. My work usually manifests as performances or live art events that are positioned by props, dialogue or music and incorporate elements of my research, often using spoken word and oral storytelling.
